I’m a runner, a beginner but I run and I’m lapping everyone who sits on the sofa and moans but never does anything about it. Until a few months ago, I hadn’t been running for a year I’d been in a new place and had no idea where to go but, I just got up one day and decided to explore. Running is a way to explore, a great way to start the day and helps to get rid of the stresses of the day before and open you up to a new days possibilities.
I recently got lost trying to find a new running route and I loved it! It gave me a 5.3 mile run, 2 miles more than usual and it showed me I could run further than I had previously realised. Once I got back and looked at maps, I figured where I had gone wrong on the actual run I wanted to do and I have also completed this since. However, this post is about all the other runners I’ve bumped into on my travels as well as those on bikes or simply walking all of whom, had said they were keeping fit.
My father runs so, I have encouragement always but, when your on a run and your aching and heavily-breathing with sweat on your face and one of those people just says hello and keep going, your doing great or it’s someone you see regularly and they smile and comment on how great your doing and looking-it just gives you that boost you need to carry on. It just shows that we’re all in this together, we’re all trying to improve and that running is as much about your mentality as well as your fitness.
I’ve slowly increased my routes and speeds but my favourite run is one I do regularly but this particular day, I’d felt better and fitter now I’ve been weaving five mile runs in also, and I saw this women running. We politely spoke on our way past, I saw her again and she smiled and we both said keep going your doing great and the third time I saw her, she said she was on her way home now just as I was but it made me realise I’m fitter, I’m faster which gave me the motivation to finish my run with a smile on my face.
No matter what exercise you do, there are always people who want to encourage you, give you the mentality you need. So, for all the people who say you cannot do it just remember there is at least double that many strangers wanting to encourage you to do your best.
